Ewha Womans University has won a total of KRW 1.24 billion from the Ministry of Science and Technology under the 2008 sponsorship project to enhance educational capabilities at universities with high-quality human resources. The fund will be assigned for three months between September and December 2008.

The government grants will serve the following objectives:
· Expand student scholarships such as the Mirae Scholarship and the Ewha Global Initiative Scholarship,
· Create a faculty board to guide students in career development
· Assist employment of students for all majors
· Extend overseas learning programs under the leadership of professors
· Improve an educational environment through modernizing and customizing IT equipment customized for open practice rooms.

The 2008 project of the Ministry of Science and Technology has applied the formula funding process for the first time in Korea to the selection. The scheme determines the schools to be sponsored and the size of the funding based on a formula using objective and quantitative indicators.

Academic performances of a university were assessed by a formula factoring in graduate employment rates (employment of better quality), student continuation rates, the ratio of full-time instructors, the proportion of scholarship recipients, and per capita education expenses. As a result, schools with high scores in the assessment are eligible for the funding. A formula combining academic performance indicators and current enrollment numbers has been used to determine the size of the money.
